Copyright (Music)...
The 'C in the circle', is used for composition, lyrics, musical score and any artwork associated with the production itself.
The second type of copyright for music, is the 'P in the circle', this is applied to the sound recording.
For our opening title sequence, we had to find a piece of copyright - free music to go with the footage. The reason why we can't use well-known music from the charts is because it's been copyrighted. This means that if we used it, we may be sued or fined.
Although your allowed to use samples, you must ask permission first-this makes it difficult if you wanted to use a song from a globally amplified artist, such as Beyonce. In saying that, you could contact the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc), or the SESAC.
The BB© (Bye Bye Copyright) is a Spanish organisation that specializes in distributing non-copyright songs. They make it possible for upcoming artists to create their own songs and allow them to be embedded with your own footage. I researched many of their songs and found one that sounded suitable for the final film, unfortunately, the song wasn't long enough to support the entire piece of footage,so decided against it.

Costumes List...
Evelyn: Costume List
-Black Coat
-Black Turtleneck
-Black Work Trousers
-Black Pumps or Heels
The rimmed glasses will connote superiority because women who wear
glasses are seen as powerful, authoritative characters. Women who wear glasses
are implied to be CEO’s and successful, educated people.
The black coat will connote mystery, as if there is more to the
character than appearance. The black coat will also connote a powerful image, as it could connote that she is a mysterious character and unpredictable.

Props List...
True Disguise
Props List OPENING SCENE
TITLE SEQUENCE - Strutting through the Embankment
------>iPhone 5-most upper class or rich business orientated people will own an iPhone 5.
------>Newspaper-for workers, there isn't enough time to check the news or stock exchange for example.
------>Magazines-could represent the feminine side to her who still craves to be recognised as the popular stereotype for a woman.
------>Shopping bags-connote she is a rich woman.
------>Umbrella?-weather purposes only.
All of the props used will connote that Evelyn, is a rich and busy woman. It would achieve the generic norm of a Romantic Comedy and suggest that the plot is different because of the appearance of the protagonist revealed. It could also include a predictable twist where the coffee is spilled and her newspaper ruined etc etc. She could also pull the newspaper down to show her face, that would make the genre more obvious and yet mysterious to the audience.

Recce...
We started round 3pm so that we could show the progression of the day for the character - day into night. By doing this it makes the scene/s look more realistic instead of shooting in the day for all of the footage.
We originally planned to film outside Burlington Parade, but instead decided to film on The Embankment because of the space and surroundings, for example the London Eye and the Thames River.
The majority of the romantic comedie's I've seen have been set in London, for example Bridget Jone's Diary or Notting Hill. By filming in the area that most romantic comedie's are filmed, it connotes the genre fully, meaning that the audience will be able to relate to the surroundings.
In some scenes of the footage, people have walked by the protagonist or in front of the character. This contributes to the mise-en-scene and realism of the characters journey, hopefully the audience will be able to relate to this too because it shows the character doing everyday activitie's.
As it got darker, I thought it was going to be harder to see the character but thankfully because of the christmas lights, it was bright and bubbly which was the exact opposite of the characters personality in the scene.

The setting connoted a very busy atmosphere which is exactly what we needed to build on the charcaters personality-a business orientated female, who lived for her job.

Group Idea Synopsis...
As a group, we (Ryan, Fatima, Tanisha) decided to create a synopsis for our romantic comedy.
We've decided that the plot consists of a girl who was bullied for being ugly in high school, she then turns out to be a millionaire in the later years, but unfortunately still ugly. She struggles through life, going out with men who love her money. She then decides that she's had enough. She opts for a plastic surgery makeover, and turns out beautiful. All of her old boyfriend's want her more for her looks but now she doesn't want them. She meets a guy who possesses the same qualities she has and they fall in love. During the relationships they reveal more about themselves to each other until they get to the secret of plastic surgery. The girl reveals first and the man reveals after, it turns out that they both got a plastic surgery makeover and made themselves beautiful. They are so in love that they decide to reverse the procedures and live life together as an ugly but rich couple.

I think that the character we've used is similar to a character that we'd see in a romantic comedy, although she has a makeover to make her look more attractive, she later reverses it and goes back to her unattractive appearance. However, she still manages to fall in love and live happily ever after. So all in all, the plot twists a little because it doesn't follow a generic romcom.

My Romantic Comedy Synopsis:
Kady is going out with a guy called Jeff, who cheats on her with her best friend - cue the big comical argument.. She then vows to travel the world to find her true love. She winds up in a new strict business, everybody makes her life hell - (pepper in her tea, salt in her pasta) except this hot guy (Manager) called Max . She enjoys her job as a fashion blogger, but every time Max goes near her, she messes up or does silly things - tripping up the stairs with hot coffee, then wailing while wiping it off/Dropping cream on his crotch etc etc. The look on Max's face is the same every time (disgust/confusion), but really he doesn't express his emotions and thinks its cute. Later on when she moves into the house she finds out that he lives opposite - gets caught watching him undress. Max later on proposes to the girl, wedding is ruined by Max's dog.

AS Media Opening Title Sequence Analysis...
What Went Well?
They started off by using another film producers company logo/introduction, which i thought was really good, made it look legitimate. The fonts were consistent when introducing actors. They also used slight animation or effects to make it look like the font was on the boxes. They had a really good soundtrack to go with the opening sequence, this made it esier for the audience to guess what the genre was. They also made the title of the film big, bold and red. Which connotes importance and passion.
What Could They Improve?
They could improve the filming itself, they used a handheld which made the shots shaky and hard to focus, they would be better off using a tripod. They also introduced the producers two times and in different fonts, which went very consistent; one of them matched the title and the other matched the characters.
What Went Well?
The beginning of the opening sequence features a good soundtrack and gives the audiencae an insight into kind of genre the film is. The shots are matched and there are some good angle shots included. They introduced the people who helped with the film first, rather than the people who starred in it. They also had good use of animation with the fonts.
What Could They Improve?
Nothing really, except the lighting for some of the shots were different. It should be consistent.
What Went Well?
They had a voiceover/ narrative that introduces the film. It also suggests the genre. The camera angles and shots were very good. Their use of chronology to open to film was portrayed really well and their use of props and characters was really good.
What Could They Improve?
I think they should of put the title at the end to introduce the film better after introducing the characters and the producers.
What Can I Do To Make My Film Successful?
I could use the Match on Action shot and the Over the Shoulder shot when the characters move or speak. I would also use Synchronous Sound and Sound Motif's to imply the genre. I would use a handheld to add effect or pace and a tripod for a serious scene. For the opening scene I would use animation which a lot of symbolic codes-hearts and stars and pinks and reds.
What Am I Going To Avoid Happening?
Locking the lighting on the camera so that the
natural lighting is the same in every shot. Match the Shot's correctly and make
sure the sequence flows. Use the correct codes for a stereotypical RomCom.
I would also match a nice soundtrack to the opening
and make sure that it implies the genre to the audience.

Introduction To The Brief...
In today’s lesson we were introduced to our main task for our media coursework. Our task was to create a two-minute film of a well-known genre. The film would have to include a good plot, conventional camera angles, enigma codes and be relatable/recognisable to the audience. The film would be our responsibility, as we would have to book the video cameras and additional equipment, communicate with our group members-exchanging numbers etc and organize locations for where we would film. I did initially think that I’d be working with the same people I’d worked with during the Preliminary Task, but found out that we’d be assigned new groups. I wasn’t confident on taking on a huge responsibility with other people outside of my usual circle of friends, it could be harder to approach them or instruct them on certain things because theirs no friendship there already. But on the other hand, with friends you could be more lenient on them if they do something wrong or aren’t pulling their weight.

Se7en Analysis
The opening title sequence of ‘Se7en’ is constructed by using quick shots which creates mystery and eeriness throughout the trailer. It could also give the audience an insight to what the protagonist may be like (twitchy) and the genre of the film (horror/thriller). Another technical code would be the lighting in the trailer; it’s quite dark and uses earthy tones to create a grimy feel. This could suggest to the audience that there is a mysterious quality about the film/its characters and portrays the intensity of the film to come. Within the scenes there are a lot of reds which denote blood and/or danger- both that a horror/thriller needs to scare its targeted audience. There are a lot of close ups in the scene, especially of a man’s fingers, this could imply that the protagonist is male and by the fact that he’s making/binding books tells the audience that he is a book maker – the plastered thumbs also make it obvious as well.
The two frames in the opening sequence make it hard for the audience to distinguish whether we’re reading the right text, but also link’s to the character, who is covering images and/or text with the same picture or text, with something different added, using transparent plastic. This could be interpreted as some sort of lie-not everything is as it seems in this world.
The font in the scenes could be seen as the handwriting that the protagonist uses, the handwriting is quite spindly, and almost something that Tim Burton would apply. This creates a view of the character from the audience’s point of view-the character could be frail and creepy.
Throughout the beginning, there is also the use of non-diegetic sound, which for some could link to the sounds that ghosts make a sort of raspy breathing. Nearing the end of the opening sequence a sound track begins to kick in, the music is quite slow and for some, haunting.
There were needles being used in one or two of the close ups, which could symbolise the slyness of the character we may be watching, there was also a link to religion: the word ‘God’ kept flashing up, which could mean that in the film there will be a lot of religious references, or the lead character is a very religiously isolated person. Another reason for this would be the character highlight or ‘blacking out’ words that have anything to do with pregnancy, homosexuality and transsexual things/people. This could imply to the audience that the character is very strict about religious sins, such as being homosexual; the audience could believe that the people whose eyes he decides to black out are homosexual too.
At the end of the opening title sequence, the soundtrack, which had no voice until the title of the film comes up, along with another flashing of the word ‘God’, says “I want to be closer to God”. This could portray the killer or the protagonist as a ‘False Hero’. He could foolishly believe that if he follows in God’s teachings then he will be closer to him. However the way he goes about the process of becoming closer to God, could be a warped and sinister view of his chosen or inherited religion.

Script Practice

As a class, we looked at the script for the beginning of the movie The
Dark Knight and annotated keywords and facts that we’d need to utilise in our
script.

After we had finished, our teacher introduced us to an online site called
Scribd; this enabled us to share any type of written work we created with others
around the world. They also had the chance to embed our work and vice versa.

Evaluation Of Preliminary Task...

We used Match on Action to show Fatima walking down the stairs and
around the corner to show the transition of the scene. Unfortunately, we didn’t
realise that sometimes when you press stop on the video camera it takes nearly
5 seconds to stop properly. This made it harder to edit the footage and make
everything look like it was in sync because Fatima would walk back up the
stairs thinking that it wasn’t recording any more, when it was.

The Establishing Shot proved hard to create, this was because of the
printer-it took up too much space. But, with a bit of moving, we managed to
create a slightly crooked Establishing Shot. However, it did show the two
characters, and which way they were facing, the two shots prior to the
Establishing Shot could denote that the student felt as if she was superior to
the Head Teacher and that the Head Teacher was inferior. Although, as soon as
the student sits down could denote that the ranks swap almost immediately.

The 180 Degree Rule, was still doable, despite the space. We still
managed to stay on the correct sides of the characters by not crossing ‘the
line of vision’.

thy of her time-“She ain’t no
Diva” or it could represent the exact opposite, the Head Teacher may believe
that the student isn’t a “Diva” at all, just a spoilt child.

The 180 Degree Rule...
One of the most commonly used rules of classical film making would be the '180 Degree Rule'. This is usually used during conversations, fight scenes and moments of intense action. This Rule is normally introduced with an establishing shot, the shot displays the relationship between the important objects and/or subjects which is usually in a close up or mid shot. The camera should always stay on one side of the action to create an imaginary line between the flim-crew and the actors. For example if two people were having a conversation, the camera would show where both are in relation to the scenery and each other, both characters would stay on the same side throughout the scene so that the audience don't become confused and then believe that they have 'changed sides'.

In reference to the image above the director has a choice to film from three areas, the middle is the establishing shot and the other two are Over the Shoulder shots. If the camera is placed on the other side of the 'line of vision' its wrong, because it films over the wrong shoulder of the speaker, thus making them look like they're facing the same side.
The picture to the right is a perfect example of how the 180 Degree Rule should be used ->>>
