Copyright (Music)...

The 'C in the circle', is used for composition, lyrics, musical score and any artwork associated with the production itself. 

The second type of copyright for music, is the 'P in the circle', this is applied to the sound recording.

For our opening title sequence, we had to find a piece of copyright - free music to go with the footage. The reason why we can't use well-known music from the charts is because it's been copyrighted. This means that if we used it, we may be sued or fined.

Although your allowed to use samples, you must ask permission first-this makes it difficult if you wanted to use a song from a globally amplified artist, such as Beyonce. In saying that, you could contact  the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc), or the SESAC.

The BB© (Bye Bye Copyright)  is a Spanish organisation that specializes in distributing non-copyright songs. They make it possible for upcoming artists to create their own songs and allow them to be embedded with your own footage. I researched many of their songs and found one that sounded suitable for the final film, unfortunately, the song wasn't long enough to support the entire piece of footage,so decided against it.

Film Production and Distribution Research...

DreamWorks was founded 18 years ago, October 12th 1994 in University City, California. They are owned by Reliance ADA Group (2008-present). They own Motion Pictures. It produces films and uses 20th Century Fox to distribute. The company itself is worth approximately £3.5 billion. Their highest grossing film is Shrek 2 ($919,838,758). The genre of films they produce are usually animation, child/adult comedy. They own DreamWorks Television and DreamWorks Home.

20th Century Fox was created May 31, 1935, in Century City, Los Angeles California. By combination of Fox Films (1915) and 20th Century Pictures, Inc (1933 ). By Joseph Schenck and Darryl F. Zanuck. They are owned by News Corporation (1985-present). They own Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox Atomic, Fox Interactive, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Fox Television Studios, Blue Sky Studios, 20th Television/20th Century Fox Television and Fox Star Studios. In 2006, their total assets were $40,790,188. The highest grossing film they've distributed is Avatar(2009). They mainly distribute action/adventure films and television series/programmes. 

Working Title Films was founded in 1983, by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe,in London. They are owned by Universal Studios and own WT² Productions and Working Title Television. The highest grossing film they've distributed is Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). They mainly produce British films such as Anna Karenina.

They were founded on 30th April, 1912 as Universal Film and Manufacturing Company ( 100 years, 216 days) by Carl Laemmie, Mark Dintenfass, William Swanson, David Horsley, Charles Baumann, Adam Kessel and Jules Brulatour. In Universal City, California. Their highest grossing film is E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial ( $359,197,037). They are owned by Comcast (2011-present) and are own Universal Animation Studios, Focus Features and Illumination. They do a mixture of genres as they have a vast target audience.

Lionsgate were formed in Vancouver, July 3, 1997. They were originally called Lions Gate Films. They own Celestial Tiger Entertainment, Debmar-Mercury, Grindstone Entertainment Group, Mandate Pictures, Pantellion Films, Roadside Attractions, Sea to Sky Entertainment, Summit Entertainment, TV Guide Network and Epix. The founder of Lionsgate is Frank Giustra and their headquarters are in Santa Monica, California. They are worth £2 billion and their highest grossing film is The Hunger Games ( $408,010,692).

 

 

Warp films was founded by Rob Mitchell & Steve Beckett and was created in Sheffield & London, United Kingdom. They own Warp Films Australia and Warp X.

We started round 3pm so that we could show the progression of the day for the character - day into night. By doing this it makes the scene/s look more realistic instead of shooting in the day for all of the footage.

We originally planned to film outside Burlington Parade, but instead decided to film on The Embankment because of the space and surroundings, for example the London Eye and the Thames River.

The majority of the romantic comedie's I've seen have been set in London, for example Bridget Jone's Diary or Notting Hill. By filming in the area that most romantic comedie's are filmed, it connotes the genre fully, meaning that the audience will be able to relate to the surroundings.



In some scenes of the footage, people have walked by the protagonist or in front of the character. This contributes to the mise-en-scene and realism of the characters journey, hopefully the audience will be able to relate to this too because it shows the character doing everyday activitie's.

As it got darker, I thought it was going to be harder to see the character but thankfully because of the christmas lights, it was bright and bubbly which was the exact opposite of  the characters personality in the scene.

The setting connoted a very busy atmosphere which is exactly what we needed to build on the charcaters personality-a business orientated female, who lived for her job.

Introduction To The Brief...

In today’s lesson we were introduced to our main task for our media coursework. Our task was to create a two-minute film of a well-known genre. The film would have to include a good plot, conventional camera angles, enigma codes and be relatable/recognisable to the audience. The film would be our responsibility, as we would have to book the video cameras and additional equipment, communicate with our group members-exchanging numbers etc and organize locations for where we would film. I did initially think that I’d be working with the same people I’d worked with during the Preliminary Task, but found out that we’d be assigned new groups. I wasn’t confident on taking on a huge responsibility with other people outside of my usual circle of friends, it could be harder to approach them or instruct them on certain things because theirs no friendship there already. But on the other hand, with friends you could be more lenient on them if they do something wrong or aren’t pulling their weight.
