Production Name...

As a group we decided to change our Production Name to R.I.F.T Productions, as it sounds more professional and features all of the groups names in it.

Another way I would market my film is by showing trailers in cinemas and on TV at certain times of the day to make sure the target audience see it; teenagers from 4:00pm-10:00pm to make sure they continuously see it from after they finish school to a little after the average bedtime. For the young adults, trailers would be shown after watershed – (9:00pm-5:30pm), because some could work later than others. One more tactic to draw in the audience is by using big brands like Body Shop to give out free tasters or something that could of been used in the film or like for BJD using Virgin Atlantic’s “Does this '2 for 1’ Offer To London Make Our Butt Look Big?” to pull in the older audience.

What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why?

I think that Universal Pictures would distribute my film because they are vertically integrated; this means that they will be able to produce and distribute the film without there being high cost. They would also be appropriate because they have a wide target audience which would help our film become popular quicker. Universal Pictures have distributed Romantic Comedies before, for example Bridget Jone’s Diary, this is a tent pole film, as it made $10.8 million within its first week of opening, which allowed Universal Pictures to release Bridget Jone’s Diary: Edge of Reason later on This is because the first was such a hit. Guaranteeing our film global success.

Another Distributor I would choose MGM or Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, this is because they also have experience with distributing Romantic Comedies’ too. For example, ‘When Harry Met Sally’, a well known film among adults and young adults around the world.

How does your media product represent particular social group?
 

As a group, we chose to have a female play the main character in the romantic comedy, rather than the male. This makes the audience recognise the type of film and genre.
We chose Keshia to be our main character in the opening sequence because she was a previous GCSE Drama student, and is currently doing A Level Drama. This made it easier for us to ask her to convey emotion through to the audience because there wasn’t any dialogue used, although hard, she did complete the task to the best of her ability.  We used Keshia to play the protagonist character in our opening, because she's not a generic ‘romcom’ female protagonist, i.e. blonde, tall etc. By using a female character, we are targeting other females who may possibly relate to the character or have been in the same situation. Although Keshia’s character is a 34 year old, she is obviously younger. This will attract teenagers who will watch it because they see a character that appears to look like them. 34 year old women will probably be drawn to the opening sequence because it’s relatable and easy to follow. The character is of British/Caribbean descent, rather than White/American or White/British. This could be seen as a countertype, because you don’t see a lot of Black/British females in mainstream movies. Another countertype would be appearance. Most female protagonists usually believe they are ugly, when they are really beautiful. The character we’ve created is complicated and not as attractive as a generic romcom female and the progression she makes to become a beautiful woman is both physical and mental.
The star that Keshia is supposed to represent,would be Bridget Jones. She is one of the most recognised female characters in a romcom, single, stressed and educated. Although, Bridget Jones and Keshia are different in appearance they still act the same way. By getting Keshia to act out a Bridget Jones stereotype, this will hopefully attract fans of the BJD movies.

I believe that our film will attract these psychological people:

·         Egoists-“those who seek pleasure”

·         Puritans- “those who wish to feel virtuous”

·         Drifters-“those who are not sure what they want”

The fact that we've filmed in London will attract a British audience. The audience will be able to relate to the places we've filmed on/near. For example the London Eye, Big Ben etc. However, this could attract tourists as well who will possibly want to know or see more about London. Creating global amplification for our film, as it will be viewed by different ethnicitys, who will then use 'word of mouth' to spread their opinions and hopefully get other people to watch it. On top of that, we've edited the footage to show the mise-en-scene surrounding the character, this allows the audience to feel comftable with the opening because it is set where they live. Also, by showing scenery, we have enhancd the verismilitude of the scenes.
